Advance Ability
Concerned Therapist

Dear Ruth,

I just wondered what your credentials are since you are giving advice to people about reading, speech, and so forth. I read a few entries and it seems that the advice is extremely general. Can you comment?

A Concerned Therapist

Dear Concerned Therapist,

Thank you for your question! I am a speech/language pathologist licensed in two states. As you can probably tell from the initials after my name, I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The advice is intentionally general. It is intended to give information that will help the questioner to understand more about the area of concern and the possible need for professional intervention. I also give suggestions that apply to general development of useful skills. People who want help with specific needs or concerns, need to seek the advice of an appropriate professional who can learn about and respond to their unique situation. There is no way around that.

Best Wishes,

Ruth Alice Jurey, M.S., C.C.C.
Speech/Language Pathologist
