Easy, accurate practice makes perfect.

1. Give the student a sample alphabet and a number strip.

Make these available where the student writes.
You can tape them along the top of the desk, for instance.

2. Show the student how to find the number or letter they are looking for.
For example, you can point and sing 'a-b-c-d . .' till you get there.![]()
3. Teach the student to copy the correct direction from the sample.
Do some Directional Training if needed--under the 'Reversals' section at The Reading Treehouse.

Never 'teach' a student that backward writing is a brain problem.
