Say its name and help the child to clap out the syllables.

Say & clap: air . . . plane

The word is: Truck
Say & clap: truck (just one clap!)
Which Word is Longer? Clap and see!
(This can be a tricky question for young children.)

Hard:
Ask the child to say ‘Se-ven-up’ without the ‘up’ . . . “Seven.”
Ask the child to say ‘Ti-ger’ without the ‘ger’ . . . “Ti.”
Harder:
Ask the child to say ‘Air-plane’ without the ‘air’ . . . “Plane.”
Hardest:
Ask the child to say ‘Sev-en-up’ without the ‘en’ . . . “Sev-up.
